MS PowerPoint Insert Tab

The Insert tab in PowerPoint comes right after Home, just like in Word. It's where you add new elements to a slide — images, videos, shapes, charts, tables, links, and more.

It has ten groups: Slides, Tables, Images, Illustrations, Add-ins, Media, Links, Comments, Text, and Symbols.

1. Slides Group

• New Slide – Adds a new slide, with a dropdown to pick a layout.
• Slide from Outline (some versions) – Creates slides automatically from a text outline or Word document, using heading levels to define slide breaks.

2. Tables Group

• Table – Insert a table by dragging across a grid, or choose Insert Table, Draw Table, or Excel Spreadsheet for a live embedded Excel object.

3. Images Group

• Pictures – Insert an image from your device, stock images, or online sources.
• Screenshot – Capture and insert a screenshot of another open window, or use Screen Clipping for a custom selection.
• Photo Album – Creates a new presentation (or adds slides) automatically formatted to display a batch of photos, one or more per slide.

4. Illustrations Group

• Shapes – Insert lines, arrows, rectangles, circles, callouts, and more.
• Icons – Insert scalable vector icons (people, objects, symbols).
• 3D Models – Insert rotatable 3D objects.
• SmartArt – Insert editable diagrams (flowcharts, hierarchies, cycles, lists).
• Chart – Insert a data chart (bar, line, pie, etc.) backed by an embedded spreadsheet.

5. Add-ins Group

• Get Add-ins – Browse and install third-party add-ins from the Office Store.
• My Add-ins – Quick access to add-ins already installed.

6. Media Group

• Video – Insert a video from your device or an online source (like a YouTube link).
• Audio – Insert an audio clip that plays during the slideshow.
• Screen Recording – Records your screen directly and inserts it as a video clip on the slide.

7. Links Group

• Link (Ctrl+K) – Inserts a hyperlink to a website, file, email, or another slide in the presentation.
• Action – Assigns a click or hover action to an object (jump to a slide, open a file, run a program, play a sound).
• Zoom – Creates a Summary Zoom, Slide Zoom, or Section Zoom — an interactive, non-linear way to jump between sections or slides during a live presentation.

8. Comments Group

• Comment – Adds a comment tied to a slide or specific object, useful for feedback during collaborative editing.

9. Text Group

• Text Box – Inserts a movable, resizable box for text.
• Header & Footer – Adds repeating date, slide number, and footer text across slides (and speaker notes/handouts).
• WordArt – Inserts stylized, decorative text.
• Date & Time – Inserts current date/time, optionally auto-updating.
• Slide Number – Inserts an automatic slide number field.
• Object – Embeds a file from another program directly into the slide.

10. Symbols Group

• Equation – Inserts a math equation editor.
• Symbol – Inserts special characters not available on the keyboard.
